Human Givens: a refreshing approach to wellbeing, rooted in evidence based science and the way humans and their brains work

HG Therapy helps you get control over your emotional well-being and on the road to clearer and healthier ways of thinking.

When our physical and psychological needs are being met in a proper balance we are more resilient in the face of daily life and any setbacks that occur.

Human Givens (HG) therapy is a modern and holistic approach to mental health treatment. It asserts that all people share certain innate emotional and physical needs, and when these needs go unmet, individuals may be more likely to experience stress and other emotional and mental health concerns.

The HG approach originated in the field of psychotherapy, and its principles are now also used in many other settings, such as education, business, and conflict resolution. It provides a scientific framework for understanding the way that individuals and society work, encompassing the latest scientific understandings from neurobiology and psychology, as well as ancient wisdom and original new insights.

The therapy focuses on areas where a person’s life is, and is not, working well. The goal is to identify the missing emotional need or misused resources in patients’ lives. HG psychotherapists work with adults, children, and organizations. The therapy always focuses on helping individuals feel better as quickly as possible.

At its core, the HG approach is highly empowering, asserting that if human beings' physical and psychological needs are met healthily and in appropriate balance, they won't get depressed; they cannot have psychosis; they cannot be in the grip of addictions.

The Human Givens Institute is one of just six bodies recognised by the UK Professional Standards Authority as being a training provider and regulator for Psychotherapy and Therapeutic Counselling.
